Like many of you, I’m spending a lot of extra time at home, so I’ve taken this opportunity to get in some extra reading.
For ages, storytelling has been known as one of the most important traditions around the world.
It has earned its place as such because every story contains a lesson for it’s reader, to use their newfound wisdom to influence their own lives for the better!
I would like to continue this vital tradition by sharing a story with you.
The story of He Shou Wu,
or “The black-haired Mr. He”
Long ago, as a young bachelor, Mr. He was given the unfortunate news that he was unable to have children.
Shocked at the realization that he may never have a family of his own to raise and care for, he slipped into a deep slump and considered himself a failure in life.
Consumed by his negative emotions, Mr. He began to spiral, and turned to the bottle to try and cope…
Over the years, his unhealthy coping had taken its toll on the seemingly hopeless Mr. He.
His strength began to fade, the senses weakened, and his hair had gone gray at an early age.
By the time Mr. He was in his mid-50’s, most of his nights would end in him stumbling home through the village drunk as a skunk.
But one evening, Mr. He didn’t make it home in his stupor…
Rather, he awakened the next morning in a peaceful forest clearing.
Upon waking up, the first thing that caught his eye was a pair of beautiful vines with heart shaped leaves coiled around each other over his head.
Mr. He thought these vines looked like a couple entwined in a loving embrace.
Interested by the plant and seeing it as a sign, He dug up the roots and carried it with him back to the village.
Upon his return, Mr. He began to ask around regarding this curious plant, but nobody he spoke to was familiar with it.
That was until he crossed paths with a monk visiting the village.
The monk advised Mr. He to prepare and eat the root, claiming it would restore his fertility and vitality.
He was hesitant to follow the monks advice, but with nothing else to lose, Mr. He gave it a try. Eating this root each day over the next few weeks.
Over this time, the monks claims would turn out to be true for Mr. He!
His strength and youthful vigor began to come back to him, and his grey hair returned to the jet black colour it once had.
With his reclaimed vitality, Mr. He was able to pull himself away from the darkness and depression that had shadowed over his life for so long.
Eventually, Mr. He found a beautiful woman to start a family with. The two were happily married and had many healthy children together.
The end to Mr. He’s story is a bright one. He was able to live a long, healthy, happy life. All the way until his death at over 120 years of age.
To this day, people continue to use He Shou Wu to treat the symptoms associated with premature aging; weakness, greying hair, and infertility.
He Shou Wu is among a superior class of tonic herbs.
It is a longevity and yin replenishing tonic. It nourishes essence, builds blood, and enhances fertility for men and women alike.
This herb has been prized for centuries, with many claiming that it has the power to prevent premature aging, enhancing longevity and youthfulness.
According to TCM theory, He Shou Wu restores and nourishes the primal energy of the body known as “Jing” or “Essence.”
By nourishing that root energy the skeletal system, the muscular system, and the nervous system are tonified and energized.
He Shou Wu also supports healthy levels of SOD (Superoxide Dismutase) an essential antioxidant for cellular health.
Along with it’s high zinc content, this is an herb you should consider adding to your daily regimen.
Every story has a lesson to be taken from it.
And the message from Mr. Hes tale is that it’s never too late to start living your best life.
Because even if you feel as though you’re stuck on a downward slope; one small change can turn everything around.
Be well,
Dr. George
